“Proud people breed sad sorrows for themselves.” ~Emily Brontë
Being raised in a society where it’s taboo to seek help outside the home, or outside the family circle has made life challenges all the more arduous; you might say I was raised steeped in pride. Not that of conceited pleasure and satisfaction in my achievements or admired qualities. No! It was the pride of being conscious of my own dignity, after all, there’s no dignity in charity; you make your own way, make do with what you have, however destitute, because…..”By the sweat of your brow, you shall eat bread.” Yes! This how we lived, we lived in pridefulness, we suffered in silence, condemned in our own ignorance of need, and not having the courage to ask for a handout or a hand-up!

I enjoy collecting quotes and try to memorise at least 5 new quotes each day. I’m toying with the idea of writing a book of some favourites I’ve found over the years, incorporating some of my own.
“Day by day, what you choose, what you think and what you do is who you become.”
“Everything flows and nothing abides, everything gives way and nothing stays fixed.”

“The more you talk and think about it, the further astray you wander from the truth. Stop talking and thinking, and there is nothing you will not be able to know. To return to the root is to find the meaning, but to pursue appearances is to miss their source. At the moment of inner enlightenment there is a going beyond appearances and emptiness.” ~Janzhi Sengcan
This was written almost 1,500 years ago in China; very few moments in our lives go by in total silence. There are always distractions that may come from outside or inside, such as our thoughts or our emotions. Strive to find silence and stillness every day, and you will find inner peace.
