Recording Artist of The Month: Anna Mae Bullock

Anna Mae Bullock was born in Nutbush Tennessee on November 26, 1939, she began her musical career in the mid-50s as a featured singer for a local Band, her first recording was in 1958 under the name “Little Anne.” Success would follow with a number of notable hits, including “A fool in Love,” “River Deep-Mountain High,” “Nutbush City Limits.” And continue to turn out hits up to this day.

In her Biography, which later became a box office hit, it was revealed that she suffered several bouts of domestic abuse by her then Husband prior to their divorce in 1978. However, raised as a devout Baptist, Anna Mae claimed that melding her faith with Buddhism during the early 70s, is what helped her endure those difficult times, as she would turn to its spiritual chant of “Nam Myoho Tenge Kyo” for strength and peace.

Over the decades, she has evolved as a solo female artist, becoming one of the world’s best-selling music artist of all time, often being referred to as the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll. She is most noted for her energetic stage performance, powerful vocals and career longevity leading rolling stones to list rank her 63 on their 100 greatest artist of all time.

Not bad for a little girl from Nutbush Tennessee. Today Tina Turner spends her time roaming the Swiss Countryside where she’s called home since moving there in 1994.
