” Music can change the world because it can change people.”   ~ Bono, U2

Flipping through my calendar today it’s still hard to believe February was jut waving us goodbye. Now March has just done the same and though it’s been a short week, but hope it was a good one all the same. Since Easter decided to make an early appearance this year, not much to look forward to in April is there? Except……..Sunshine, Spring showers, blooms of fancy and a new artist of the Month to get you grooving into the weekend! Yayyyyy!!

******

Born August 9th, 1963 in Newark, New Jersey, with both her mother and Godmother Aretha Franklin being well known legendary figures in American gospel, soul and pop music, she almost seemed destined from birth to become a singer.

At the age of 15 Whitney Houston was performing along side her mother Cissy Houston, trying to get a record deal of her own. Around the same time, she was discovered by a photographer who was awed by her natural beauty; and She soon became an extremely sought-after teenage model. One of the first African-American women to appear on the cover of Seventeen magazine. But music remained her true passion and at the age of 19, her dream came true after being discovered in a nightclub by the renowned Clive Davis of Arista Records, who signed her immediately and took the helm of her career as she navigated from gospel to pop stardom. Like they say, the rest is history!

Whitney Houston became the only artist to chart seven consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits, being the second artist behind Elton John, and the only woman to have two No. 1 Billboard 200 Album awards (formerly “Top Pop Albums”) on the Billboard magazine year-end charts. Debuting in 1985 with her album “Whitney Houston” which became the best-selling debut album by a woman in history. Named the best album of 1986 by rolling stones and ranked No. 254 on the magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Her second studio album Whitney (1987) became the first album by a woman to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
