“Tolerance implies no lack of commitment to one’s own beliefs. Rather it condemns the oppression or persecution of others.” ~ John F. Kennedy
We all have beliefs. Whether it’s your own belief or those of others, we our guided by these beliefs. The trick is, staying true to self and not conforming to others by getting caught up in their beliefs. Living in alignment with your own values means being yourself and knowing what you believe in and the values you are guided by.
Create a strong foundation. Establish your own sense of identity. It doesn’t matter what happens in your life, being grounded will always keep you focused on who you are.
Build courage. It takes a great amount of courage when you decide to take the path that goes against the crowd. The majority of people take the broad path because it’s easy-pure and simple. It’s easy to just follow the crowd. It’s more challenging to establish your own identity. The challenge of always being yourself takes courage and inner strength.
Find focus and direction. When you are always yourself, you are more likely to have focus and direction in your life. A person who is constantly conforming to other people’s expectations has no focus or direction. When you stay true to who you are, you are more likely to know the goals you want to accomplish, the direction and how to go about accomplishing them.
