“Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.” ~ C. S. Lewis
Integrity (Courtesy -Webster’s dictionary)
1.the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.
2. the state of being whole and undivided.
Integrity is the harmony and completeness of our identity. A person with integrity can be justified as a person who lives according to their moral code, as opposed to someone who has NO moral code, or one who changes their morality as a matter of convenience. It’s easy for people to trust someone with integrity; because that person with creates a continuity across the events of his life, and those around them know first hand who they are dealing with on all levels, business, social and personal.
How to Maintain Your Integrity
Fulfil your promises: Don’t make promises you are not willing to keep. Life gets busy, sometimes we forget. Breaking one promise makes you comfortable and comfort breathes habit. If you have to break a promise, apologise and move on.
Stick to Commitments: Before making a commitment, “stop and reflect on whether you are 100 percent sure you can deliver.” Now, a commitment is not a promise. A promise is a pledge that you will do or refrain from doing something. While a commitment refers to your responsibilities to perform certain task. Like having a responsibility to your support your family or performing on your job.
Mind your language: Take charge of your language. It’s often not what you say, but rather the tone in which you say it that matters most. Consider your habits and skills, then learn how to curb them to make them more pleasant and receptive to others. If you do have a ‘slip of the tongue,’ learn to apologise and move on!
Avoid people who lack integrity: It’s NOT business as usual with people who lack integrity. ” You are judged by the company you keep.” It’s important to realise this inevitably people will judge your character by the character of your friends. If you’ve worked hard to build and maintain your integrity, don’t jeopardise this by choosing the wrong company.
