The final segment of “Your Emotional Strength” gives some insights on finding it. Like everything else finding your emotional strength takes time because this kind of thinking what comes with emotional weakness starts as early as childhood when you relied on your parent(s) for emotional support-love, comfort, acceptance and validation. It’s true that, at that age, you didn’t have enough independent skills to support yourself emotionally at that age. But becoming a teenager or an adult without learning along the way how to stand on your own emotionally, is when you look to someone else to fill that void your parent(s) left.

The good news is, how strong you are emotionally  doesn’t require the involvement of anyone but yourself. After admitting and accepting you have a problem, all that’s required to gaining emotional strong is practice and patience.

Some suggestion to practice

Alone time– Set aside for 20 minutes each day, without a phone, tablet, TV or other distraction for yourself. Become aware of your thoughts, get to know your mind as you jump from one thought to the next. My thought race when I remember a dream or if something bad happens because I’m trying to figure out the lesson in it.

Talk yourself through your own problems. Find your own solution. Feeling bored, lonely or hurt, comfort yourself and I don’t mean with food. There’s a lot more indulge than food.

Take responsibility. You can choose to blame someone else for your problem, you’re making them the scapegoat depending on them for a solution. If you find yourself blaming others, tell yourself that the other person is never the problem. If they are indeed the problem, they shouldn’t be in your life, to begin with.

Mental strength is the deciding factor of whether or not you will have a good life. There are many levels to mental strength all of which are necessary to being successful and happy. The only area of mental strength that has the greatest impact is that of emotional strength.
