Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.
The yearning to succeed is a part of life, it’s something everyone strives for. The best way to pursue your dreams and learn something new is to obtain as much information as you possibly can on the subject. Getting a degree or training in your field will definitely work but the best way to gain success in anything is to learn from people who has been successful in that particular field.
I’ve found that a lot of people are hesitant in learning from others because they feel it sheds a negative light on their own abilities or diminishes their own capacity in some way or another.
The knowledge gathered from the trials and errors of other will be immeasurable. It doesn’t mean you won’t make your own mistakes along the way but it means you’ll have the wisdom of not only your own trial and error but also that of others, giving you a stronger foundation to stand on.
Be open to criticism, be accepting of trying new things and most of all be willing to change your game plan by taking advantage of the opportunity to learn from as many people as you can. Recognise the difference and learn all the good stuff, leave the bad stuff for the people who are not serious about their goals or pursuing their dreams. You can take a direct approach or an indirect approach to learning from a mentor. The direct approach means listening with intent while asking for help and advice. While, indirect learning means to observe what others are doing, mirroring the procedure while adding your own ideas or knowledge.
There is wealth in gaining knowledge and it doesn’t matter how you gain it or who it’s gained from.
