“Until further notice, celebrate everything.”
If we stayed the same we would never grow. Just as death makes us more aware of our mortality, birthdays make us more aware of life. With each passing year, we learn to appreciate life and all its eccentricities. Our mindset shifts from people pleasing to self-fulfilment, our attitudes change from conforming to social standards to imposing our own standards as through the years we begin to find ourselves, learn to appreciate every individual thing about ourselves.
I know how tempting it can be to focus the negative and dwell on all the things you haven’t done instead of all the things you can. My birthday is in a few weeks, it’s a milestone but instead of dwelling on the rise in digits I’m focusing on the how much I’ve grown. I’m proud of the not only the person I’ve become but also on my achievements. I’m not speaking about academic achievement but my achievements in self-love, personal growth and self-confidence.
Life is not meant to be celebrated only on special occasions. It’s meant to be celebrated each day as each day is a learning experience in self-love, self-confidence and self-forgiveness. This is what builds character. This is what makes builds strength. This is what makes you who you are.
What lesson did you learn today?
This is my submission to Debbie’s Forgiving Friday series, where she writes about and invite others to share their thoughts on Forgiveness, Self-Love and Personal Growth.
