Recognizing that you are not where you want to be is a starting point to begin changing your life.”

well-being

noun[ U ]

US/ˈwelˈbi·ɪŋ/

the state of feeling healthy and happy

~Cambridge dictionary

When we think about well-being we like to think about the definition as reflected in the Cambridge Dictionary above. It may sound simple but it’s a struggle to maintain a healthy balance when life has other plans for you. It’s even more difficult to stay happy when there are so many bad reports. Mental Health on the whole is a struggle, it’s something I’ve struggled with for years but have always just gone through the motions of filling my days with anything that would keep my mind off of what was not going right in my life.

It’s been a long time since I’ve put my own well-being in check, sometimes life gets the best of us and it becomes the furthest thing from our minds. Getting caught up in the complications and tragedies of life, family, and work. Health and Happiness somehow take a back seat to it all because so painful situations, situations we’re unable to control, and hard times make us doubt our abilities to cope. Many times the situations we are faced with overpowering our ability to recognize what matters most. Our own well-being.

When our cope mechanism becomes overwhelmed by the woes of life and all we can see in front of us is the chaos life has tossed at us, it’s nearly impossible to focus on anything but those problems. When things go tough, my grandmother, like many old folks did, would sing, she would fill her heart with song. There’s a favorite gospel song I listen to by Donnie McClurkin that says, “Tell me, what do you give when you’ve given your all, And it seems like you can’t make it through?……. Well, you just stand!” That is what I’ve had to learn to do, STAND! When my world felt like it was falling down all around me, I planted my feet firmly on the ground and STAND! It doesn’t matter how many times life knocks you down, what’s important is how many times you get up.

The more we fill our life with words that remind us of who we are, the better our chances of making it through whatever life tosses at us. It’s not going to be easy because as you know, one of the most difficult things in this world is to live through something you have absolutely no control over. I’ve written about how much my faith has been tested over the past few years, more so within the past few months. But like the song says, when you’ve given all you got, the only thing you can do is stand! So today I encourage you to get up and continue to stand, believe and have faith that you will get through whatever life has thrown at you today.
