We’re hours away from welcoming a new year, well, a day at least. Given the uncertainty of the past few years, I’ve heard some people say they dread the New Year, and just take it as it comes. Me, I’ve never been the one to make resolutions. 2023 will come in just as all those before it, bringing with it a clean slate, and new beginnings, giving us 365 days of endless possibilities. How you use them is entirely up to you but, if you’re not sure yet, here are four points you may wish to consider, your future self will thank you!
Choose to be YOU! Faking it is one of the most exhausting activities you’ll ever carry out. Trying to be someone else is hard, it’s so much easier to be yourself because you don’t have to think about it, it all comes naturally. If people don’t like the real you, then find a new group. If no one else chooses you, choose yourself above all else, in the end, it’s you, you have to live with.
Let Go! The only thing that takes a huge part of your life is that thing you pay attention to, energy goes where attentions flow!! There have been a lot of things in the past few months I’ve had to let go of. I have to accept that the only way to change my world, the world around me, my home, my family, and my personal space, was to change the world I was creating inside me. I had to let go f the betrayal the disappointments, the heartbreaks, and the pain in my life to create a better world inside me, one where I could find peace amidst the storms of this world. As you step into each day of the coming year, don’t stress about what has happened or what hasn’t happened yet, live one day at a time. Enjoy each moment as it comes, live in the present without a thought of the future. Put your concentration and thoughts on the things you can control. And learn to let go of all the things and People that don’t bring you joy.
Pick Yourself Back Up! Whatever you are going through in life right now is temporary. I’ve had to pick myself up so many times, I’ve lost count. Bing knocked down can sometimes be painful, especially if the person knocking you down is someone you trusted, I don’t mean this in a physical sense but rather an emotional sense. There have been many times when I thought certain people would show up for me, only to find out they hadn’t and that left me deflated. But hey, life goes on, you have to pick yourself up because how you move from that point to the next is entirely up to you. So don’t give up you!! Face it, bad things do happen to good people, however, sometimes when things go wrong it’s because if they had gone any other way, your situation may have been worse than before.
Be Courageous! I’m almost afraid to say this because the past few years have seemed so unfavorable for me, overcoming all the challenges of lockdowns and personal struggles of 2020, only to face more challenges in 2021. But I say to you, Live out loud, live courageously, embrace uncertainty, and plan as if failure is NOT an option for you. Let this New Year be the year that you ignore the fear and jump! Honestly, there are still some things that strike a hint of fear in me, but in the end, I’ve released the fear and taken that leap of faith. Trust me when I said, that there is nothing to fear but fear itself! What 2022 has taught me is that with God, all things are possible, and if God is with us, who can be against us?
I do hope 2023 is good to all of us!!
What a fantastic wish for us for the new year.
May that be to you too Etta
