The mind is a wonderful thing. It’s also a total liar and an excuse machine that frequently tries to convince us not to take actions we know are good for us. In the end, this prevents many positive changes from taking place in our lives.
I’ve had to learn to watch these lies and excuses very carefully in order to make the positive changes I’ve made in my life: a healthier diet, regular exercise, meditation, more sleep, daily writing, better planning, less procrastination, more focus, etc.
If I hadn’t learned about these lies and excuses, and how to suppress them, I would never have succeeded in making these positive changes. In fact, until I knew better, I had failed countless times when I was young because my mind’s deceptive tendencies used to get the best of me.
“Human beings are the only living organism with the capacity for moral choice. Although
your choices are limited to a certain extent by your surroundings, you have an inner freedom that allows you to choose to change yourself and thereby change the world.”
― Di Smith,
Review the events of the day, very briefly, before retiring. Keep a good sense of humour even if you lose your shirt. Hear the other side before you judge. Don’t cry over split milk. Learn to do one thing as well as anyone on earth can do it. Use your company manners on your family. Keep all possessions neat & orderly. Get rid of things that you do not use. Read the Bible every day & do something to help someone else. These points may seem trite, but each has a hidden meaning behind it, and invincible law of psychology & metaphysics. Try them.
“Insist on peace of mind, health and happiness; these things are God’s will for you. If an old problem continues to stick, pray for inspiration and intelligence. If everything seems to be sticking, stop struggling and thank God constantly for setting you free. Use this treatment exclusively for a week or so. If you feel depressed or discouraged, work to realize Life and Joy, and give thanks for these things. If nervous and frightened, throw the responsibility on God, and tell Him that you know you are safe in His hands. If someone is being troublesome, see only the Presence of God where the troublesome person seems to be. If you want to make faster progress, claim understanding and affirm that Divine Love is working through you.
Begin to live today as though you are an immortal being and all thought of death, all fear of change will slip from you. You will step out of the tomb of uncertainty into the light of eternal day. The night time of your soul will have passed and the eternal light of everlasting day will dawn as the great reality in your life.
