Time is not the great teacher. Experience is. A man may live a whole life, but if he never leaves his home to experience that life, he dies knowing nothing. A mere child who has suffered and lived can be the wiser of the two.

Freedom is not the absence of commitments, but the ability to choose – and commit myself to – what is best for me.”
― Paulo Coelho
Dedication is something we think little about because it comes as second nature when we choose to dedicate our time to our work, our families and our friends. We make commitments to be that listening ear to anyone who needs it, to always get the job done and to take care our family to keep safe and happy. But how committed are you to you? When any of us think of commitments it’s often towards something external, never internal. How much time is spent committing to things which makes us happy? We have become so self-absorbed in the movement of self-love, we think that’s all there is. ” I love myself and that’s enough.” That’s it, end of story!

When that happens, you do it. Listen to your instincts and ignore everything else. Ignore logic, ignore the odds, ignore the complications, and just go for it.

Time is an equal opportunity employer. Each human being has exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day. Rich people can’t buy more hours. Scientists can’t invent new minutes. And you can’t save time to spend it on another day. Even so, time is amazingly fair and forgiving. No matter how much time you’ve wasted in the past, you still have an entire tomorrow.

Six years ago we started our third and final Journey from Belgium to Scotland. We had made two trips prior, first to get a feel of the place, since neither of us had been here before we thought it would be nice to have a look around. The second was to view properties and finalise our lease. At the time of our first visit, we had no idea that it was mandatory for to view a property before signing a lease and our real estate agent refused to have us sign our lease remotely even if he thought the property was a fit for us. He wanted us to decide for ourselves. The trips were long, especially long for me since the longest drive I’d ever been on was a 5hour drive from Ohio to Pennsylvania decades before, that trip felt like torture so imagine a 9-hour drive from London to Edinburgh, adding to that journey, a 4hour drive from Liege to Calais with 45 in the Eurotunnel.
