The more mature I become the less gregarious my nature. My inner circle has become smaller but more meaningful, a few years ago it struck me that there were many people in my life who were simply just along for the ride. They brought nothing to the table and when they walked away they took more than necessary. We all know those people, the ones who always need a favour but is never available to return one.

Your Passion Is Your Power

There is an emotional attachment to everything we do so it’s ok if others are not connected to what you do, so it’s ok if other’s don’t share your passion. I remember years ago, sitting in a session of my monthly book club. Each session consisted of everyone in the group taking their turn of reading a chapter or a few pages of your book, whichever took less time, while other members follow along with their copies of the same text. At the end of each reading, everyone got a chance to critique your work. One critique that stuck for me most and stayed with me for a long time was the fact that some members did not get my story or understood some of the terms I used because it was written in dialect or the term itself was unfamiliar to them.

I’ve spent years suffering from depression, low self-esteem or rather no self-esteem and social anxiety. I’ve been medicated, inundated with self-help books, seminars, videos and I’ve come to the conclusion that suffering comes because we have been taught that pain will always be with us. It’s a permanent thing that we have to carry with us throughout our lives like a second skin.
